Welcome to my website!

Hola! My name is Amanda Ritchie. I teach Spanish at the University of Akron and I am currently taking courses to get my Masters in Education with a K-12 license.  I plan to use this website to share the valuable information that I learn about how I can incorporate technology in my classroom to enhance the learning of my students.

A little about myself....

It all started in high school when my Spanish teacher began a Costa-Rican exchange program. I went to Costa Rica my junior year and spent 3 weeks with a family. It was my first time out of the country, and it changed my life. It was an amazing experience. I not only saw volcanoes, climbed waterfalls and zip-lined over the rain forest, but I got the opportunity to experience a completely different culture by living with a Costa Rican family. This experience instilled in me my passion for traveling and my love of the Spanish language. After high school, I attended the University of Akron and got a Bachelors degree in Spanish. When I graduated, I wanted to experience living in another country, so I got a job in Toledo, Spain through the Spanish Ministry of Education. I was a “Language and Culture Assistant” and taught English in a school with students from Preschool to 6th grade. When I returned to the United States, I then began the Spanish Master’s program at the University of Akron. I was a graduate assistant, so I worked for the department and taught one class per semester. I then graduated with my Masters degree in Spanish. Since graduating, I have been teaching part-time at the University. I teach between 2 and 3 Spanish classes per semester. Although I love teaching at the college level, I have decided to begin taking classes so that I will have a teaching license to teach at the grade school and high school level.

One of my passions is traveling and experiencing other cultures. Here are some pictures of my trips to Spain.
